Threat Thursday
Phishing scams are sneaky tricks that bad people use to steal your personal information like passwords and bank details. They often come in emails or messages pretending to be someone you trust, like a bank or a friend. Here’s what to look out for:
1. **Suspicious Links**: Phishing emails usually have links that look real but can take you to fake websites. Hover your mouse over the link to see where it truly leads before clicking. If it looks odd or unfamiliar, don’t click!
2. **Strange Email Addresses**: Take a good look at who sent the email. Phishers often use addresses that seem similar but have small differences—like extra letters or different domains. If you’re unsure, verify with the sender before responding.
3. **Urgent Language**: Scammers create a sense of urgency to trick you into acting fast. If an email says you must act immediately, pause and think. Legitimate organizations usually don’t pressure you like that.
To avoid getting caught out, always double-check emails for typos or odd phrasing, which can indicate a scam. Use security software to help identify suspicious content and keep your passwords unique and strong.
