Threat Thursday
Tech support scams are on the rise, and they can be tricky! Scammers pretend to be from trusted companies and claim your device has a problem. Then, they try to get you to pay for fixing it! Here’s what to watch out for:
First, be cautious if you get an unexpected call from someone claiming to be tech support. Legitimate companies usually don’t reach out this way unless you’ve contacted them first. If they ask for remote access to your computer or any personal information, that’s a huge red flag!
Next, look for signs of urgency. Scammers often create a panic, saying your computer is in danger. They might claim that you need to act fast to prevent data loss. Take a breath! There’s usually no immediate threat, so don’t rush in decision-making.
Watch for unfamiliar company names or emails that look odd. If something feels off, trust your gut!
To avoid getting caught in these scams:
1. Don’t engage with unsolicited communications.
2. Hang up and call the official tech support number found on the company’s website.
3. Use antivirus software to protect your devices.
